Tai Chi Chuan (commonly known as Tai Chi)
Although this system of healing is also part of martial arts, it has a great following not only in the East, but also in the West, and you can see its practitioners doing the slow, flowing and graceful exercises every morning in parks across the world.


The trance-like dance is a combination of tai chi (t'ai chi ch'uan) ritual movements (known as forms) which are done to promote the flow of internal energy, increasing self awareness while strengthening and relaxing the body.
The forms are said to move the body's energy (the chi) to its natural center - the tan tien (also spelled tan t'ien) which is located about 2 - 5 cm below the navel.
These daily exercises are said to prevent illness by correcting imbalances and are also most useful in helping to improve strength, flexibility and relaxation.
This form of healing was penned by the sage Loa-tzu in his writings called the Tao Tê Ching.
Regular Tai Chi practice is most beneficial for better posture, balance, backache, arthritic pain and normally leaves a person feeling invigorated, calm and in harmony with life.
