Catarrh is the excessive secretion of phlegm from the air passage of the lungs, the larynx, the nose and the sinuses.
The causes of catarrh are colds, flu, hay fever, bronchitis, sinusitis and rhinitis. Some people with food allergies also find that certain foods tend to promote the production of catarrh.
A painful but very effective remedy is to put a few drops of diluted pure lemon juice in each nostril. (We do not recommend that this be done excessively due to the fact that it could irritate the skin and membranes)
Less painful is to put a drop each of Thyme oil and Eucalyptus oil in a bowl of hot water and inhale, with a towel over your head, for 10 minutes.
The addition of Eucalyptus oil to a bath can also help to ease catarrh.
